Austin-based artist and Nilla wafer connoisseur Travis English has been doing freelance work for about 5 years. He started dabbling in posters less than 12 months ago and has already started generating a growing following. A self professed fan of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings he enjoys mystical places and faraway worlds.
Here is what Travis said about his inspiration for his latest Star Wars project.
“I’m a diehard Star Wars fan and have been since I was 5 (I just turned 24). Star Wars, and George Lucas are the biggest inspirations for being a filmmaker. I’m a highly imaginative person and as a child, the Star Wars universe showed me that I didn’t have to limit my creativity. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of my idols because he’s “as wise as Master Yoda and as powerful as Master Windu.”
“I’ll probably be crucified for saying this, but I love the prequels, like obsessed. From a filmmaker’s standpoint, they’re not the best in regards to acting, but for me they just extend the fantastical world they exist in and I’m jealous every day that I don’t get to live there.“
His newest batch of Star Wars posters embody the essence of each movie through silhouettes. The minimalist approach enhances the image brilliantly and each poster represents its subject matter perfectly as is stirs up memories of old and somehow cues John Williams famous music to run through your head on a continuous loop.
Travis is working on a new website which should be ready in February or March. Aside from the new site he has some new posters coming out as well. He is putting the finishing touches on a Lord of the Rings series and he is also “putting a lot of effort into a new Harry Potter series styled like his Star Wars saga silhouettes“. Until the new website is up, his TUMBLR page as well as his ETSY page feature all his impressive work.
Remember the words of Master Yoda, “No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.“ Now head over to Travis’ Etsy site HERE to purchase his work and see what other gems he has created. His posters are like Nilla wafers, you will want more than just one.
