Legendary motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson celebrates its heritage in customization by launching his grand design competition called “Art Of Custom“. This is a fantastic opportunity to get in touch with your creative side and hopefully see your own tank design presentation on the famous “Tank Wall” Museum Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee, alongside works by major artists.
Harley-Davidson brand is certainly the most iconic motorcycles in the world and celebrate the launch of the Seventy-Two Sportster and Softail Slim, Harley-Davidson has worked with some of the greatest contemporary artists across the globe to launch its Design Contest “Art of Custom“. With this global undertaking, Harley-Davidson goes in search of ideas for the most creative and innovative custom tanks.
The contest “Art of Custom” was launched at an event in the “Wynwood Art District“. The artist Lebo, ambassador of “Art of Custom“, whose works adorn the walls and galleries in Wynwood, launched the campaign by customizing three tanks that give life to the spirit of Harley-Davidson . They are also exposed on the new “Harley-Davidson Virtual Tank Wall” – the online version of the famous wall at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.
To inspire participants, various artists, including Lebo, Irish artist Terry Bradley, or the French artist Didier Chamizo have customized a selection of Harley Davidson tanks with their own works of art. In addition to these new tank designs, the site also exposes some of the most iconic designs of the last century, like the classic “FX Super Glide” by Willie G. Davidson, dating from 1971, and the 2008 “Cross Bones” from which the basis of the motorcycle driven by Captain America in the Hollywood movie of 2011 was derived.
Artists and aspiring designers can download the basic model tank and give life to their own interpretation of the spirit of Harley-Davidson , in whatever manner and style they want. Participants can use the tank as a veritable blank canvas to express themselves exactly as Harley-Davidson has done for over 100 years.
After a vote by users, the highest ranked 50 designs will be evaluated by a panel of judges including members of Harley-Davidson, ambassadors of the competition, Lebo, and Terry Bradley, and they will elect 10 finalists. These will then be submitted to a final vote by internet users. The three best works chosen by the public and the jury will then be produced.
An unforgettable experience will be offered to one winner. They will journey to the “heart” of Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they will receive a Sportster, one of the masterpieces of the brand. The next two will have their work exhibited on the Tank Wall at Harley-Davidson Museum.
