Take A Gander At Olly Moss’ Magnificent Poster For the 85th Academy Awards

If you were to ask me to give you a quick list of some of the things I love aside from family I would most likely say something like coffee ice cream, DiPietro’s Italian sandwiches, great movies and the work of Olly Moss. (Of course this is only a smattering of a much larger list that I would eventually come up with given enough time.)

Screen Shot 2013-02-11 at 9.33.52 PMImagine how happy I was when I saw that Olly Moss was part of the group of artists that was commissioned by The Academy and Gallery 1988 to do art for the 85th Academy Awards! Screen Shot 2013-02-12 at 10.00.32 PMWell now the wait is over and Sir Olly Moss’ work has been revealed.  (I’m pretty sure he will be Knighted soon.  I mean they did it for Richard Branson, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Patrick Stewart.  He is right up there with those guys right?)  Olly did a commemorative piece that is comprised of 85 statues that highlight and relate to the Best Picture winners from 1927 all the way up to 2012.

Screen Shot 2013-02-12 at 9.59.48 PMHere is what Olly had to say about the project:  “I worked with the Academy to create the official 85 Years of Oscars poster.  The brief was one of the hardest I’ve ever had; find a way to reference every single Best Picture winner from the last 85 years. Thanks to Gallery 1988 for putting my name forward and organizing this whole shebang.”

Screen Shot 2013-02-11 at 9.36.58 PMAs usual, Moss’ work is exceptional and this poster is a must for movie buffs.  You can order the print on The Academy’s website HERE for only $35.  I truly hope that this is only the tip of the iceberg and that each year we get to see talented artists interpret the best movies and have their work shown to a global audience.

-Oscar-85-poster-olly-mossTune in on Sunday, February 24, 2013 to watch The Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater as it’s televised live on the ABC.  I will be sitting at home with a bowl of coffee ice cream, watching and tweeting my joy and frustration throughout the evening.
