I can still remember the first time my Dad took me to the movies. It was 1977 and we saw what I often call, “Stephen Spielberg’s finest film,” Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. I remember walking out of that theater bewildered and convinced that there is life out in the galaxy.
Artist Trevor Dunt shares my appreciation of the film and has done 3 prints to help immortalize the film. Trevor is a self taught artist that lives in Milton, Delaware. Here is what he had to say about the movie:
“I have always been drawn towards Close Encounters, even as a child. It was one of the first movies that literally scared me but also left me with a sense of beauty it what was actually taking place in the film. I find that my favorite movies all have the same theme of blurring the lines between fear and wonder. With the seemingly constant state of ridicule that those who believe in intelligent life elsewhere, it is a film that reminds me that there is beauty in believing.”
Trevor sites Midnight Marauder as his favorite artist saying that “his stuff is literally amazing!”. Blurppy tends to agree with him on this point as we have featured Midnight Marauder’s work many times. We even detect an homage to Midnight Marauder with this piece above. Very reminiscent of Mr Marauder’s work. Brilliantly executed by Trevor.
His work has a stylish vintage feel to it and there is good reason. The majority of the paper, tape and other textures used in his original designs are found in physical books and other vintage artifacts he uncovers at thrift stores. Trevor rates his work accordingly. “When people ask me if the posters are ones I find in antique stores that I have restored, I did a good job.”
