Fans of Netflix award-winning, hit series, “House of Cards” are in for a treat today. Not only does today, 2/14/14, mark the launch of Season 2 BUT, Netflix is doing something special for their fans and making all 13 episodes for season 2 available at 8:01. That’s right, all the episodes, for the entire second season will be available at once.
It just so happens that Poster Posse member, artist Ben Whitesell, is a huge fan of the show and will be calling in sick to work today for a marathon session of the show. He enjoys the show so much that he even went so far as to create a print to commemorate the second season. We reached out to Ben to get a little insight about this new print and here is what he had to say.
I’m a huge fan of the House Of Cards series on Netflix. I was just blown away by the quality of show on so many levels. The visual production was amazing thanks to the guiding hand of David Fincher. The acting was off the charts with Kevin Spacey’s portrayal of Frank Underwood as well as Robin Wright as his wife, Claire. And the writing was top notch thanks to creator Beau Willimon.
I actually just finished re-watching season 1 for the second time in preparation for the release of season 2 today. It is going to be hard not to sit down and watch the entire second season all at once, but I think I have a Poster Posse project or two to work on, so I will probably try not to get too carried away.
As for my poster, I really haven’t seen too much done with House Of Cards, and I thought it needed a cool design to kickoff season 2. I think Netflix has a really winner with this series and it would be awesome if they started hitting up illustrators to do some prints to promote their straight to streaming original series. You know, give the fans something to hang on their wall.
I wanted my design to capture a tiny bit of the mood of the show and do a dramatic take on the character of Senator Frank Underwood. Believe it or not, it is really hard to capture Kevin Spacey’s likeness. Getting his features just right took quite a bit of time. This particular illustration also allowed me to play with a new illustrative style that I will be using on a few future projects.
Now if your internet starts running slow today just remember, the Northeast has been blasted with snow which means a lot of folks are binge watching this entire second season. My advice, take your time. Watch one a week, make it last and be happy knowing that they have already agreed to do a third season.
Set in present-day Washington, D.C., House of Cards is the story of Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District and House Majority Whip who, after getting passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, decides to exact his revenge on those who betrayed him. The series also stars Robin Wright, Kate Mara, and Corey Stoll in lead roles.
