The Force has chosen…wisely…multiple sources (actually EVERYONE!) are reporting that none other than J.J. Abrams will be sitting in the director’s chair for the upcoming Star Wars movie. With a script being written by Michael Arndt, (“Little Miss Sunshine” and “Toy Story 3”), this will be the first Star Wars movie since 2005’s Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. J.J. has had massive success in the sci-fi genre with Cloverfield, Super 8, 2009’s Star Trek reboot/ prequel and the sure to be amazing, 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.
“It’s very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new Star Wars movie,” said Kennedy. “J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture.”
George Lucas went on to say “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”
“To be a part of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor,” J.J. Abrams said. “I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid.”
It was said that Kathy Kennedy had been after Abrams for the position but J.J. said in an earlier interview that he passed on the opportunity out of loyalty to “Trek”. Looks like that now that his Trek duties have passed, Kathy made one more call to fan favorite Abrams. The movie is expected in theaters in 2015. Yes, I am geeking out and can’t wait. How about you?
