After a rigorous day of metal detecting with my 7-year old son and a whopping 56 cents, two rusty bolts and a Magnum bottle cap later I came home to see that one of our favorite sites, THE FIRE WIRE, did a great piece on the talented Italian comic book artist, Francesco Francavilla and his early 1900’s Batman concept art.
Intrigued, I dug a lil further into FF’s blog and found some more incredible concept art for another Batman project called The Crimson Harvest. Keep in mind that he wrote about this in his blog back in April of 2o12 but the work is so good it needs to be mentioned again.
Francecso showed these images and talked to fans last night on his TWITTER feed. When asked “Is this something coming out?” He responded as such…
Here is what Francesco said about the potential of the project in his 2012 blog entry: “Hello Pulp Friends, super busy with Swamp Thing and The Black Beetle (with a Shadow and a Spider cover thrown in for good measure) this week so I hope you will forgive me if I re-air this old idea I have about a pulp story with The Batman titled “THE CRIMSON HARVEST“. I have been giving some serious thought to it lately and most likely I should start to work on some layouts – what do you guys think? :)”
What do we think? Are you kidding me? Why isn’t this thing on DC’s production calendar and in process! Given the success of Francesco’s pulpy Black Beetle series we can only hope it entices the folks at DC to make The Crimson Harvest something we can purchase rather than just something we all crave.
Here is what fans said in their Twitter feeds about it: “love this take on Batman”, “great pulpy fun as only FF can do’em”, “this totally needs to happen”, “damn that’s great!”, “I am drooling“. Even the FANTASTIC Scott Snyder got in on the action and said, “I love that you have Gotham on the brain brotha“
