Check Out Artist Matt Ferguson’s Latest Piece: “AKIRA” For Geek-Art’s Upcoming Manga Show

Artist, and one of the founding contributors of the Poster PosseMatt Ferguson has just released a new print on his BeHANCE page.  This time out he brings us AKIRA from the ever so popular Japanese manga series of the 80’s and 90’s.

Here is what Matt had to say about his latest piece.

After a couple of successful shows with Geek-Art they asked me if I would like to participate in a show based on 80’s and 90’s Manga/Anime.  My response was of course a definite YES. This was most likely one of the most fun pieces I have worked on in some time, simply because I love the subject matter so much.

“I wanted to evoke the sheer power that Tetsuo demonstrates in the film and also hark back to the work I did for the film Chronicle. It was a great piece to create and I can’t wait to see it in the show!”

In the manga series Shōtarō Kaneda is the protagonist of Akira. He is a brash, carefree teenage delinquent and the leader of a motorcycle gang known as The Capsules. Kaneda is best friends with Tetsuo, a Capsule member whom he’s known since childhood, but that friendship is shattered after Tetsuo gains and abuses his psychic powers. He becomes involved with the underground resistance and falls in love with their member Kei. In the story Kaneda is enveloped by an explosion that was caused by Akira and according to Lady Miyako, he is “beyond this world”
