Joshua Budich is a fearless artist. He has tackled some of pop cultures biggest icons and the end result has been spectacular. From Biggy and Tupac to Costanza, Eddie Vedder, Jimi Hendrix, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Bruce Lee and Super Mario he delivers highly desirable prints that fans can’t seem to get enough of.
Aside from being a brilliant artist he has amassed a very impressive collection of Star Wars toys which he also features on his website. The collection is extensive and highly covetable. The way he displays them on his site is so unique and efficient that it garnered him a 2009 Webby Award.
Last August Gallery1988 asked Josh to participate in a small-group show with two other talented artists, Jay Shaw and Jeff Boyes. Josh’s theme was an attempt to mash his study and love of the classical Renaissance masters, (Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Correggio, and Botticelli), with all his childhood obsessions and influences. Since Michelangelo is his favorite Renaissance artist (and most likely his most favorite Ninja Turtle) it made perfect sense to place everything within a Sistine Chapel environment. The goal was to elevate the things he was passionate about to an even grander iconic stature, similar to the way Michelangelo did with the biblical Prophets and Sybils.
He came up with 6 new pieces for the show and they were instantly a hit. He called the collection Sistine Pop and it covers 6 awesome pop culture masterpieces.
