Futuristic Leica Concept Camera From 23 Year Old Industrial Designer Vincent Sall

-0leica-x3-concept-gear-patrol-tig-fullThis concept piece completely captivated us.  It is so different and so unusual that we had to learn more about it.

Vincent Sall is a 23 year old industrial designer from northern Sweden.  He is currently a student but the camera was a personal project that he undertook in his spare time.   As Vincent states on his site: “Leica AG has not been included in the process in any way” but the idea is so unique that I have a strong feeling that they may reach out to him to explore this one further. We sought out to Vincent to get his take on this ambitious piece and this is what he had to say.

Screen Shot 2013-03-20 at 9.46.29 AMThe concept is basically a visualization of a product that would fill the gap between smartphones and digital cameras. I found this project to be an opportunity for me to show my potential in modern industrial design and visions.

The camera transfers all the pictures to any device, tablets, phones or macs via Bluetooth which creates a fast and creative process for the user since the pictures will show up where you really want to use them. The camera itself is small enough to be carried around anywhere but still perform as a “big digital camera” since no display is needed. In order to accomplish the result in reality a lot of new technology and research would be needed. Technology like “flat lenses” and maybe new sensor types etc.”

I am a student and I consider school as a stage of life where catch up on all the knowledge of  previous generations in order to visualize the horizon for the new, the future.”

It has given me a wide perspective when I search for design solutions. I often find inspiration in natural phenomenons or just patterns in different fields.”

“Design for me is language that should be used with great respect. Every day I try to improve my own knowledge in the field by asking my self questions and spending time figuring out the key decisions in products and solutions that fascinates me. Design is beautiful when its purpose feels natural and honest, with great respect for the environmental issues that we are dealing with today.”

As you can see, he seems to be a grounded, focused and immensely talented individual.  Please check out his WEBSITE to see some other impressive concepts he has conjured up.  You can also follow him on TWITTER which I highly recommend.  I have a feeling that many more incredible things are on the way from Vincent.
