It’s time for BLURPPY to unleash an all new Poster Posse Project. We got the feeling that folks would be expecting us to take a shot at Thor 2: The Dark World or The Desolation of Smaug. Well both of those would be amazing projects for the Poster Posse but I wanted to keep fans on their toes so we veered a little left of center with this one and went with “47 Ronin”.
The movie is directed by Carl Rinsch and hits the domestic market on December 25th. It stars Keanu Reeves, my latest crush – Rinko Kikuchi, as well as Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki and Tadanobu Asano.
Here is the official synopsis from Universal Pictures: From ancient Japan’s most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure “47 Ronin” is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.
I was hooked from the very first trailer and character posters, (seen HERE) and knew immediately that the film would lend itself to some pretty fantastic imagery from the talented minds of the Poster Posse. I mean come ON people…who doesn’t love demons, dragons, samurai and of course….Rinko Kikuchi!?
Today I am proud to present Phase 1 of the latest offering from the highly esteemed group known as the Poster Posse. We have some new members entering the fray and I love what they turned in. Take a look at everyone’s incredible work and let us know which prints are your favorites down in the comments section below. Be sure to stay tuned and follow the Poster Posse on TWITTER (@PosterPosse) for updates on what each member has coming up, what the group is working on etc.
Arden Avett (new member) – “It’s a little different than my usually work… I tried to keep a style of the Polish Academy of Fine Arts and old Polish posters. About the language – at first I wanted to keep it in Japanese, but I think most of people will do that, so I tried to use something that is surrounding me every day – Polish language and style which I’m able to watch on exhibitions.”
Doaly As you can see, Doaly once again couldn’t contain himself. As he so eloquently put it this time around…”as you can see 2 pieces quickly snowballed into 4 with a variant as well.“
Salvador Anguiano (new member) As Salvador’s first Poster Posse entry he paid homage to one of his heroes, Patrick Nagel.
Midnight Marauder (Original 8 member)
