So, how many of you went to see Marvel’s latest and greatest, “Thor: The Dark World” yesterday? What did you think? Did you stay through the credits like we told you too?! Well don’t ruin it for me because I’m heading out on Monday to see it. To celebrate the release of the film, Louisville, Kentucky artist, BBQ connoisseur and Poster Posse member, Ben Whitesell has given us a first look at a poster that he designed for the movie and we are HIGHLY confident that you will dig it.
Back in September we interviewed Ben and he was kind enough to share some never-before-seen art with our fans. Today he continues with his generosity and gives us the exclusive reveal on his latest print.
This time out Ben really tested himself with a new technique which he describes here. I was working with a new technique in Photoshop where I build each character from gradient shapes in separate layers. This particular poster consists of over 600 layers. I think it gives it an interesting 3 dimensional quality.
The piece turned out fantastic and the mere fact that it is comprised of over 600 layers has be dying to see a process video of some sort. (Behind the scenes factoid: When speaking to Ben about this print he already mentioned the “possibility” of a “process follow up” on his blog. I just wanted to make sure he DOES do it because we LOVE to see how these things come together.)
Here is the final version of the print. Let us know what you think. Be sure to follow Ben on TWITTER for updates on upcoming projects and check out his impressive portfolio over on his WEBSITE. You can also meet Ben during the 2014 SDCC when he shows up again at the BLURPPY BBQ Invitational down at Phil’s BBQ.
