The quest to reclaim a homeland and slay a dragon…
Austin, Texas artist Harlan Elam is many things: reader, gamer, geek, & visual design manager at Volusion. You can also add ‘newest Poster Posse member’ to that list but our favorite is illustrator and after you take a look at new project I’m pretty sure you will agree.
For his latest and greatest, Harlan has taken on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and the end result is pretty awesome.
“The Hobbit was my gateway book to escapist reading when I was a kid so I knew going into my first poster I wanted to tackle that story visually. With the new movie coming out I thought it was the perfect time to get into it. The idea behind the poster was to position Smaug and The Lonely Mountain as one gigantic force that our heroes would have to overcome. Here they form a silhouette with the One Ring behind them. I was also really intrigued by blending the dwarf kingdom of Erebor into the mountain as well and it was a challenge getting all the details right. As much as I love the films nothing can ever beat the written word. This is my homage to both.
