Yipee-Ki-Yay! An Awesome Movie Mag For Your iPad Launches A Kickstarter Campaign Worth Backing

Screen Shot 2013-12-13 at 9.40.11 AMHands down, one of our favorite digital magazines this year was “Yipee-Ki-Yay!”  Issue one was packed with fantastic articles including: “The Making of Die Hard”, “The Greatest Film You’ve Never Seen #1” and a terrific in-depth interview with Justin Ishmael, the creative director of Mondo.  It also includes some top-notch, insightful reviews of several movies including: “Zero Dark Thirty”, “Wreck It Ralph”, Welcome To The Punch” and “Hyde Park On Hudson.”

Well John from YKY is ready for issue #2 and to help him launch this ambitious project he is turning to Kickstarter for help.  As with all Kickstarter campaigns there are multiple pledge levels and the levels for this campaign all cleverly reference Die Hard.  Here is what he has to say about this must-back Kickstarter campaign.

Every film fan in the world interacts with film through a screen, whether in a cinema or at home, and we should embrace that with a movie magazine that is specifically designed to be on the screen of your tablet or phone! We are not a redesigned version of a print publication, we’re proud to be a digital magazine!

Yippee Ki-Yay! treats all films equally, whether Hollywood blockbusters or independent cinema, we care about bring you engaging stories about amazing films and filmmakers!

As well as acting and directing we also focus on the artistic and design elements that go into producing great films: from screenwriting to concept artwork; special effects to poster, prop and set design. These industries and people do not get the credit nor coverage they deserve and we will bring them to the forefront!

Your support will mean we can make a magazine about film that’s unconcerned with celebrity and instead focuses on movies and champions the creativity and craft that goes into creating memorable cinema experiences!

You will not find stories delivered with such passion and excitement alongside such beautiful film-inspired artwork in any other film magazine!

One thing to keep in mind, YKY is a FREE digital magazine.  Here is what John had to say about folks paying to launch a FREE magazine.  The combination of the first two issues should be enough to show genuine interest in the magazine and will attract sponsor and/or advertising. That will generate revenue to cover the costs of creating future issues. We won’t be relying on the readers to fund more issues through Kickstarter and we will keep the magazine free for the foreseeable future (and hopefully forever!).

Sounds good to me, I’m down with “forever” and “free” for YKY!  As an added bonus, once the second issue gets funded, (and we are confident it WILL!), John will be pulling out a Mondo poster from his personal collection as part of a giveaway!  (Yet ANOTHER fantastic reason to get issue two funded!)
