I know some of you say “sequels schmequels” well THIS sequel is not your average, cookie cutter, follow up. “The Raid 2: Berandal” is the second part of Welsh filmmaker, Gareth Evans martial arts trilogy (YES, WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE MORE COMING!) that picks up a mere two hours after the first film, “The Raid”, ends.
Rama (Iko Uwais), Bowo (Tegar Satrya) and Wahyu (Pierre Gruno) don’t get much rest as they are apparently thrust into another bloody, brutal, martial arts dominated encounter of epic proportions. (FYI, “berandal” translates into ‘gangstar’ which translates into ‘trouble’ where I come from.)
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival yesterday so be on the lookout for reviews a plenty. Given the exceptional job Gareth did with part one, “The Raid 2” is high on everyone’s must-see list for 2014. With this much martial arts action, car chases, gang violence and blood, “awesome” is one word that is going to be used over and over and over to describe it.
“It’s very different from the first movie, and we have a couple of surprises up our sleeves, so it should be fun. One of the goals from the beginning was that we didn’t want to make the same film twice. We wanted to expand on the universe and get this much bigger scope in terms of the action scenes. This one is a bigger movie and has more locations and more eccentricities to it. I’m happy where we go with it” Well that’s good enough for me. I”m all in for opening day!
This one is not for the kids, hell there are probably a good amount of adults that don’t want to see it as well. For those of you that LOVE Gareth Evans’s work, sit back and watch the all new trailer. “The Raid 2” slams, punches, kicks, slashes, bashes and crashes into theaters on March 28, 2014.
