When you think of casting the perfect person for the perfect role, many would agree with Heath Ledger as the Joker, Tom Hanks as the voice of Woody and now, Angelina Jolie as the villain in Disney’s upcoming “Maleficent.”
Today Disney is giving us a look at the character as we have never seen her before…with wings and she looks even more benevolent than she did in previous images. (After seeing her below with the horns, we didn’t even think this was possible!)
Here’s the official synopsis from Disney: “A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal — an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom — and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.”
We also have a brief new trailer for the film where Maleficent talks about her wings with Sleeping Beauty. (Come Back tomorrow for the new FULL trailer.)
Sleeping Beauty: “All the other fairies fly, why don’t you?”
Maleficent: “I had wings once, and they were strong… but they were stolen from me.”
“Maleficent” also stars Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. It’s directed by Robert Stromberg and Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay. “Maleficent” will fly into theaters on May 30, 2014. The retelling of the old Sleeping Beauty tale from Maleficent’s perspective looks to be a grand slam. I only hope Disney has Jolie locked down for a follow up because this movie is going to crush it at the box office.
After the jump, take a look at an International poster for the film as well as some recently released stills that will SURELY have you longing to see the film. The first still includes a picture of Jolie acting with her daughter Vivienne who appears in the film.
