“and upon his brow is set a crown of flame”
This year we celebrate the glorious anniversary of one of comics favorite characters, Hellboy. ( The other day we gave you your first look at another fantastic Hellboy piece by Matt Ferguson.) Created by Mike Mignola back in 1993, this demon has been in countless comic books, battled Nazis and strange mythical creatures, was further immortalized by Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro in movies and even had his ‘hand’ in 2 video games. (HEY MICROSOFT…anytime Xbox wants to make a new one for their spiffy-new system, you can have my money immediately!)
Speaking of giving my money over immediately, Vector-Asgardian Orlando Arocena has just revealed his tribute piece to Hellboy for an upcoming show at Hero Complex Gallery that takes place on Friday May 2nd.
This official tribute art show is curated and presented by Ecuadorian illustrator and designer, Chogrin Muñoz and will feature over 100 artists as they pay homage to the character created by Mike Mignola.
Today we are honored to show you Orlando Arocena’s contribution to the show and it is… well I struggle for just one word here so let me use two….”breath taking.” Here are some process shots to give you a better idea of just how gifted Orlando truly is.
Here is what Orlando had to say about the piece on his BEHANCE PAGE. “Imac + Adobe Illustrator CC + Wacom… No tracing- No Graient Mesh- No Plugins. My stylized Pop-Deco tribute capturing the personality and iconographies that are associated with HELLBOY. Cheers and enjoy~”
“Hellboy” by Orlando Arocena
On May 2nd this print will be available at the HERO COMPLEX GALLERY EXHIBIT as a sensational 1 of 1 wood transfer. If you are in LA on May 2nd, come by Hero Complex Gallery for the exhibit. Orlando is flying in for the event and yours truly will be there as well. (I’ll be the guy passing out copious amounts of Poster Posse Stickers.)
