“This Christmas Be Careful What You Wish For…”
Disney has just released their first trailer for “Into The Woods” and it has us eagerly awaiting the film’s arrival in theaters this Christmas. Based on the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical, “Into the Woods” is a dark mashup of Grimm Fairytales and “Something Wicked This Way Comes.“
The movie is packed with talent including Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, James Cordon and Johnny Depp. They each play popular characters from the fairytales including Cinderella, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, and of course, the big bad wolf.
The film’s official synopsis goes like this: “Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), “Into The Woods” will make Disney’s first live action musical adaptation. Despite the darker tone to this one, it’s still Disney which means families will come out in droves during the holiday season. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
