As usual, we are late to the game on new music but after listening to the self-titled, debut album by rock duo, “Royal Blood“, we are all in. It’s hard to imagine this much intensity and sound coming from just two guys but what’s even more staggering is that they have only been around since 2013.

The British duo consists of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher and they are already making a name for themselves in just a short amount of time. They have already toured with the Arctic Monkeys and played at the Glastonbury Festival, South X Southwest, the Reading Festival, just to name a few key places.
The band has garnered the attention of Howard Stern who now calls them his favorite band, and Led Zeppelin’s guitarist, Jimmy Page who said “I went to hear them in New York. They were fantastic. Absolutely riveting, they’re such fine musicians.Their album has taken the genre up a serious few notches. It’s so refreshing to hear, because they play with the spirit of the things that have preceded them, but you can hear they’re going to take rock into a new realm – if they’re not already doing that. It’s music of tremendous quality.” (Wikipedia)
We pick up the influences of Cold War Kids, Jack White, Wolfmother, Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age and the Foo Fighters but these guys are no rip offs, they absolutely rock! Speaking of which, they will be on tour with the Foo Fighters this summer so if you are ANYWHERE near one of these shows, get your tickets early.
Check out this fantastic full concert from the Les Inrocks Philips Festival. Be sure to follow ROYAL BLOOD on TWITTER for updates on new releases and upcoming shows. Personally I would LOVE to go see them with the Foo Fighters at Fenway Park this July but like MOST of their upcoming shows, this one is completely sold out.
As an added bonus, here is their cover of the Motorhead classic, The Ace of Spades.
