The Grammy® nominated Los Angeles-based rock band Silversun Pickups has been confirmed to perform as the house band at the Film Independent Spirit Awards which airs live on IFC this Saturday, February 21 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET.
Silversun Pickups, who just completed recording their yet-to-be-released fourth album in their hometown of Los Angeles, will perform songs from their decade-long career throughout the awards ceremony. They will be playing their own material in and out of each commercial break, and will be heard and seen and on camera throughout the show serving up portions of their many alternative-rock hits, including: “Panic Switch,” “Lazy Eye,” “Well Thought Out Twinkles,” “Substitution,”, “Dots & Dashes,” “Little Lovers So Polite,” “Royal We,” “Mean Spirits,” “Cannibal,” “The Pit,” “Bloody Mary,” and “Busy Bees”.
Silversun Pickups is comprised of guitarist/singer Brian Aubert, drummer Christopher Guanlao, keyboardist Joe Lester, and bassist Nikki Monninger. The Los Angeles Times has said that Silversun Pickups “evokes the excitement of rock acts discovering how electronics and noise can upend expectations.”
The show will be hosted by Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell, and the list of presenters for the event includes: Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain, Ellar Coltrane, Mark Duplass, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Galifianakis, Ethan Hawke, Gillian Jacobs, Scarlett Johansson, Jared Leto, Diego Luna, Ewan McGregor, Alfred Molina, Julianne Moore, Olivia Munn, David Oyelowo, Michael Pena, Aubrey Plaza, Craig Robinson, Emmy Rossum, Andy Samberg, Dax Shepard, J.K. Now in its 30th year, the Film Independent Spirit Awards is an annual celebration honoring artist-driven films made with an economy of means by filmmakers who embody independence and originality.
Film Independent also produces the Los Angeles Film Festival, Film Independent at LACMA and a number of year round Artist Development Programs that are the incubators for the next generation of independent film writers, directors, and producers. The Spirit Awards is the primary fundraiser for Film Independent’s year-round programs.
