Simon Caruso’s Passion For Music & Illustration Collide With His “I Can See Music” Project

French artist Simon Caruso is passionate about many things but two of his favorites are music and illustration.  Seven years ago he set out to combine these two into one cohesive project.  The end result is called “I Can See Music” and it brilliantly combines Simon’s illustrative style with some of the best songs that music has to offer.

Here are a few words from Simon about the project.  “I CAN SEE MUSIC is a personal project of mine I’ve been developing for a few years. My goal : to have fun mixing two passions together, illustration and music ! I chose one song from each one of my favourite bands (especially from 60s and 70s, that’s what I listen to everyday !) : Queen (best band ever, period), David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Crosby Stills & Nash, Genesis, The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane,… And I tried to translate the lyrics into pictures, vinyl record-shaped, onto scratchboard !

It was the opportunity for me to develop a new geometric graphic style, due to this medium. Just add a label in the center, and I have a personal playlist which has been exhibited several times, with lyrics and music playing ; an art show you can watch, read and listen to !”

“I hope to have time (or commissions, it wouldn’t be my first commissioned musical scratchboard) for dozens more : Curtis Mayfield, The Bee Gees, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Donovan, King Crimson, Electric Light Orchestra, Tenacious D, Stealers Wheel, The Darkness…”

Another thing Simon is passionate about is commission work.  If there is a song that YOU would like to see done in his signature style you can hit him up VIA e-mail: contact@simoncaruso.com.

These are only a few of the pieces that Simon has done for his “I Can See Music” project. Our fingers are crossed that he does some Bowie pieces like he mentioned above.  Be sure to check out Simon’s OFFICIAL WEBSITE, BEHANCE PAGE and FACEBOOK PAGE to see more of his impressive portfolio.
