Tomer Hanuka Turns In A BRILLIANT Print For Terrence Malick’s 1973 Classic, “Badlands”

Academy award nominated director, Terrence Malick, made his directorial debut in 1973 with “Badlands.”  The film starred Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek is a crime story that is loosely based on the real-life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate.

Badlands is narrated by Holly (Spacek), a teenage girl living in a dead-end South Dakota town. One day she meets Kit (Sheen), a young, troubled, psychopathic greaser, who charms and runs away with her. Holly’s narration, describing her adventures with Kit in romantic clichés, is juxtaposed as Kit’s increasingly antisocial and violent behavior is slowly revealed. The two are eventually arrested; Kit is executed for his crimes, while Holly receives probation.

Mondo has just announced a stunning new print by Tomer Hanuka that pays fitting tribute to the film.  Here is what Mondo and Tomer had to say about the project.

Tomorrow we’ll be releasing BADLANDS by Tomer Hanuka! This is the first poster in a Terrence Malick Director Series that will continue over the next year. We’re big Malick fans and are pumped to kick off the series with a poster for his first feature. Tomer did an incredible job capturing the theme of the film, complemented by type treatment by Avi Neeman. – MONDO

“As bodies pile up in BADLANDS, and Kit & Holly drive deeper into a fairy tale of dreamy romance and desensitized violence, it is our sinful desires they’re burdening, embodied here by Sheen, crucified against an all American sky.” – Tomer Hanuka
