On September 28th – 29th, 2016, Louisiana artist Vance Kelly will launch his first ever solo show with The Flood Gallery. The show will feature a plethora of his past prints as well as 4 new, highly desirable silk screen prints for fans to fawn over. Vance will be in attendance to meet, greet, and pass out free high fives to all the fans. We reached out to Vance to get a little more insight and he was kind enough to speak with us during what I am sure is a very hectic race to the finish line.
Blurppy – Congratulations on your first solo show! How long has this been in the works?
Vance Kelly – Thanks Don! We are very excited for this show and have been planning it since last year.
Blurppy – You live in New Orleans, Louisiana, how did you hook up with the good folks at The Flood Gallery?
Vance Kelly – I’ve worked with John from Beyond The Pale posters in Australia for a few years now. The team over at The Flood Gallery found me though him. Last year, Chris Marskberry from Flood asked me to do the artwork for a vinyl and poster release of the Jerry Goldsmith score for Legend. After the success of that release, Chris asked me if I was interested in doing a solo show with them and of course I said yes.
Blurppy – How many pieces will there be total in the exhibit?
(New art teases)
Vance Kelly – There will be 4 new pieces for the exhibit plus variants. The show will also include many of my other posters as a retrospective for those in London not familiar with my work. I’m sorting through my flat files to see which ones will make the trip as we speak!
Blurppy – THAT in itself has to be a tedious process. I know what MY flat files look like and I can only imagine yours. Now that you have “solo show” checked off your bucket list, what’s next?
(Here’s some of the art that will be in the show)
Vance Kelly – That’s a big one for sure! I’m currently working on one of my fanboy dream projects as well as few other projects that I’m geeking out over. I wish I could tell you more but of course that’s top secret.
Blurppy – Top secret is good, it leaves us pondering the perplexities and potential of your upcoming projects. What’s the rest of 2016 and early 2017 look like for you?
Vance Kelly – I’ll be hitting NYCC with HCG this October with a special release. I have two group shows coming up with some of my favorite artist that I can’t wait to announce. One at the end of October and the other in January. Be on the lookout for tons of new posters and many other projects!
Blurppy – Looks like SOMEONE is in for some sleepless nights…. What places are you most excited to visit over in London?
Vance Kelly – Last time we were over, we had the chance to make it out to Stonehenge and most of the other “tourist must-sees.” This time I’m looking forward to roaming around streets of London with Godmachine, visiting pubs, and finding a few filming locations from An American Werewolf in London!
Pubs with Godmachine sounds like the perfect recipe for a good ole fashioned U.K. hangover! I wish we could book a ticket and head across the pond because this looks like it’s going to be an amazing show. Use the links below to stay up to date with Vance and The Flood Gallery.
