What if you took five of today’s greatest directors: Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo Del Toro, Paul Greengrass, and Lawrence Kasdan and shed led on the fascinating and inspirational story of how five OTHER directors “went to World War II to tell the truth, and changed filmmaking forever.”
Today Netflix has released the first trailer for it’s three-part docu-series, “Five Came Back” that tells the tale of legendary filmmakers; John Ford, John Huston, Frank Capra, William Wyler and George Stevens. Narrated by Meryl Streep and based on Mark Harris’ best-selling book, “Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War,” it is evident that Netflix has another binge-worthy weapon in their ever-growing arsenal.
“Five Came Back” launches on Netflix on March 31. In conjunction with the launch of Five Came Back, Netflix will also present 13 documentaries discussed in the series, including Ford’s The Battle of Midway, Wyler’s The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, Huston’s Report from the Aleutians, Capra’s The Battle of Russia, Stevens’ Nazi Concentration Camps, and Stuart Heisler’s The Negro Soldier.
