Why did we use an exclamation point at the end of our title? Because we are BEYOND excited for you to read this book!
For the past 20 years, Brad Meltzer has been mesmerizing fans with some sensational books including: the Beecher White series, The Tenth Justice, The Millionaires, The Fifth Assassin, The Book Of Fate, his Ordinary People Change the World series, and his Heroes for my Son/ Daughter books along with some sensational work in comic books. With 31 of these under his belt, it’s no wonder that his latest, “The Escape Artist” is so phenomenal.
We’ve been fans of Meltzer ever since 1999 when my Dad said, “You should read ‘Dead Even’, I think you will REALLY like this author.” Like any good son, I took his advice and I’ve been hooked ever since “The Escape Artist” is one more, in a long line, of amazing adventures.
Meltzer does a ton of research for his novels and exposes his readers to secrets or little known places in each story. For “The Escape Artist” he teaches us about one of the most unique jobs in the military, the Army’s “artist-in-residence.” Meltzer also takes us behind the scenes into “America’s most important funeral home,” Dover Air Force Base. Throw in the legacy of magicians, yes ‘magicians,‘ in the U.S. government that goes all the way back to Abraham Lincoln, and you have the makings of a riveting thriller.
Today, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of author Brad Meltzer’s career with the release of his latest white knuckle roller coaster ride, “The Escape Artist.” We’ve read the book and we literally couldn’t put it down. Whether you call it a “page-turner” or a “must-read” book, it will grab you from the very first page and take you on an adventure, that will keep you guessing, pull on your heart strings, and enrage you throughout the story. Here is a small taste of what you are in for…
“Nola Brown is supposed to be dead. She was on a plane that mysteriously fell from the sky as it left a secret military base in the Alaskan wilderness. Her commanding officer verifies she’s dead and the government confirms it. But Jim “Zig” Zigarwoski has just found out the truth: Nola is still alive. And she’s on the run. Zig works at Dover Air Force Base, helping put to rest the bodies of those who die on top-secret missions. Nola was a childhood friend of Zig’s daughter and once saved his daughter’s life. So when Zig realizes Nola is still alive, he’s determined to find her. But as Zig digs in to her past, he learns that trouble follows Nola everywhere she goes. On her last mission, Nola saw something nobody was supposed to see, earning her an enemy unlike any other, who will do whatever it takes to keep her quite. Together, Nola and Zig will either reveal a slight of hand being played at the highest levels of power or die trying to uncover the U.S. Army’s most mysterious secret – a centuries-old conspiracy that traces back to the greatest escape artist in history: Harry Houdini.”
Here is what Brad had to say about Nola in a recent interview. Meltzer said that Nola was his favorite protagonist character. Why? “I love that people said she’s like ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I’ll take that compliment any day!” he said. “But Nola’s not like anyone else I wrote. Nola’s that character who grabbed me by the throat and said, ‘Pay attention to me.’ She doesn’t need to be saved by anyone. She’s on her own terms. She’s had this rough life. All of us have been through situations – whether it’s addiction, whether it’s abuse — where we’ve had to claw our way back, and Nola is that person who’s climbing out of the crater, who’s truly trying to come back to life.” – SOURCE
Not only can you get this book TODAY, but Brad is on the road promoting the book. Having been to one of his previous tours, we HIGHLY recommend that you try to go to one of these meet-ups. Brad is fantastic with his fans, often brings cool giveaways and it’s great to pick his brain about his stories as well as history. (The dude is a walking encyclopedia of cool, lesser-known facts throughout our country’s past. We are going to hang out with him on 3/14 in Mission Viejo, CA and we can’t wait!)
